I hope to write a compilation of thoughts, experiences,
rememberances, and my appreciations of one of the most valuable experiences in
my life to this point. The United States
Marine Corps (USMC) Educator Workshop in and around San Diego, California provided
a “back stage pass, VIP experience” environment exceeding expectation. If you choose to read through the ramblings,
I thank you. Good to go: average age of
USMC = 19, when it comes to duties sometimes Marines are “volunteer” or if
needed to fill a key role “voluntold,” a high compliment for a senior Marine in
rank to bestow upon a junior Marine is to call them a “pretty good piece of
gear,” a failed urinary analysis test for drugs including marijuana is an EXIT
from the Corps – zero tolerance – random drug testing, no phone calls home during
the 13 week recruit training aside from a script statement of safe arrival and
announcement of graduation – this is the first time many young people had ever
hand written a letter, 51.7 lbs. pack is a great equalizer, 77% of people 17 –
25 years of age DO NOT qualify to become recruits due to past drug, criminal,
or inability to meet physical requirements including ADD/ADHD meds and asthma,
and career Marines nearly all have a GREAT sense of humor.
